Shut up & Write workshop

Centrale Bibliotheek

Bored to Death book club was set up by two sisters who love to read, but couldn’t find other people to talk bookish with. They both read mostly English literature and noticed that there wasn’t anything that catered to that.

“We were bored with the literary landscape in the Netherlands. It felt like we were missing out on so many awesome books no one else was talking about. We knew we had to take matters into our own hands and decided to combine our love of books with our love of hanging out in bars and bookstores.”

From this, Bored to Death book club was set up. They started out hosting just one book club every month, but the book club quickly grew from there, and now they have a blog, host multiple book clubs and all kinds of other literary events.

During Crossing Border they will challenge you with a ‘Shut up & Write’ workshop. Although the title is pretty clear-cut, Shut up & Write is a writing session for wordsmiths of any kind to come together and write in silence for an hour. Bored to Death book club will make sure you know when to start and end. Afterwards, there is the option of discussing your work or reading from it if you like to share. “But please don’t let that scare you. If you are more comfortable staring awkwardly at other people while they talk, we totally get it. So sharing is very optional!”
