Visual artist Brian Elstak is a bona fide storyteller. He has appeared in De Correspondent, The Black Archives and in the Stedelijk Museum, as well as on various album covers and in video clips. He has written the bedtime stories he told his own children down, and added illustrations.
Recently, TROBI has appeared on the shelves. It is the successor of TORI, the surprising children’s book that won the hearts of many children, as well as a Zilveren Penseel award.
In TROBI, the brave human children Cel, Bones and Zi are in trouble: the tiger claw with the power of a hundred tigers has been stolen from them. To make things worse, all of the island’s crooks seem to have been sent out to hunt them down.
The mastermind behind all of this trobi (Surinamese for quarrel) appears to be a slippery octopus, but could it be that somebody else is responsible for all of these tricks? Let’s hope the claw doesn’t end up in the wrong paws…
Armed with their pencil sword and the super strong Colossus shield, the kids set out to find the stolen tiger claw. They discover that behind every bad guy, you can find a good tori.
