De Poezieboys

The Oasis, Theater aan het Spui

The Oasis, Theater aan het Spui

Jos Nargy and Joep Hendrikx are the founders of the Poezieboys (Poetry boys). Inspired by the legendary 1966 night in theatre Carré, organised by Simon Vinkenoog, they got together with musician Bas Prins to present the best of contemporary poetry. Their goal: a sold out venue that steams and cheers for poetry. After all, the world could use a little bit more Rock & Roll & Poetry.

In 1966, Simon Vinkenoog invited several poets to gather in Carré. Their dinner consisted of half a chicken and a joint. These poets, who included a newly debuting Jules Deelder, Johnny the Selfkicker and Vinkenoog himself, performed for a steaming, cheering and completely sold out theatre hall. Jos Nargy and Joep Hendrikx wonder why a night like this seems to be almost unthinkable these days. They feel that poetry deserves better. That is why they founded the Poezieboys. They previously organised shows that were performed in theatre festival the Parade, as well as in various theatres, and they put together poetry nights featuring young (living!) poets. They are taking things to the next level this season, by founding the Poezieclub (Poetry club). Together with musician Bas Prins they present the best of contemporary poetry, inspired by that one legendary night in Carré. Their goal is to see another sold out venue that steams and cheers for poetry. After all, the world could use a little bit more Rock & Roll & Poetry.

At Crossing Border, the Poezieboys will appear on stage with their performance VINKENOOG, and they will host the children’s program Little Raven on Sunday morning.
