Pete Wu

Katrina

Pete Wu loves writing, giving interviews and telling stories in various different forms. As a freelance journalist and editor, he writes about identity, emancipation, among other things. He graduated in American studies, media philosophy and journalism and worked at NOS, Quest, VPRO, IFFR and VICE before ending up at Brandpunt+ as an online writer. Besides that, Pete started writing fiction. He was allowed to contribute to Das Mag’s Sampler, in which young talent was given full artistic freedom. Dutch newspaper De Standaard called his contribution En we zouden nooit meer stoppen (and we would never stop) “a surprising story […] about an alternative initiation into adulthood”. The story follows boys in Istanbul who are initiated into ‘de anderen’ (the others) during which they are forced to perform a ritual in which a lot of whipped cream is used. When asked if he wants to become a full-time writer he said “I don’t think I would want that, to be a fulltime writer. I think I would be bored, I get a lot of satisfaction out of being a journalist”.
