Yonatan Gat

The Raven, Theater aan het Spui

Israeli composer, guitarist and producer Yonatan Gat is in a genre of his own. He originally founded the revolutionary punk band Monotonix, that became infamous for its powerful live performances, controversial enough to get them banned in Israel. He started recording under his own name in New York, adopting a unique, experimental sound. Gat’s latest album, Universalists, is an experimental artwork blending improvisation and live performance, carefully mixed and reinvented. His manic fusion of international styles and instruments might sound messy on paper, but through the provocative blend of elements, Gat manages to highlight the complex affinities between genres and cultures.
