Special screening of the movie ‘The Sisters Brothers’, based on the darkly humorous book by Canadian author Patrick deWitt. Filmhuis Den Haag will present a discussion with deWitt after the screening.
The year is 1850. The Wild West is in the throes of the Gold Rush. Infamous hitmen and brothers, Eli and Charlie Sisters, are tasked with tracking down Hermann Kermit Warm. They are aided by the devious Morris. Warm proves hard to catch, and what started as a routine job will soon turn into a dismal and dangerous road trip to the other side of the country. French director Jacques Audiard emulates the rawness of the original book in his film adaptation. This vibe is not just driven by the story’s violence – it is also dependent on its comic aspects. Along with the inclusion of actors like Joaquin Phoenix, John C. Reilly and Jake Gyllenhaal, the final result is a real treat to watch.
There are separate tickets available for this movie screening.
