We asked famous composer, jazz lover and Clint Eastwood fan: Theo Loevendie for his movie of choice to be screened during the festival. He will make a personal appearance during the movie’s introduction, to expand on the reasons behind his choice for ‘Bird’.
Actor and director Clint Eastwood created this film about the life of jazz saxophone player Charlie “Bird” Parker, in 1988. Forest Whitaker was so convincing in his portrayal of Parker, that he was awarded an Oscar for the role. Eastwood, who has a fondness for the loner’s angle, mainly shows Parker as a solitary figure who got into drugs at an early age and never managed to quit. As a result, his life was doomed to come to an untimely end. Naturally, Bird is chock-full of music. Eastwood is a lover of Parker’s work, and he illustrates the musician’s tale with his own interpretation in a beautiful, loving and honest film that’s brimming with spirit.
There are separate tickets available for the movie screening.
